NEW MEXICO CHILES ON TOP IN 2018 AGRICULTURE REPORT

New Mexico surpassed California as the number one United States chile producer, as revealed in the newly released 2018 New Mexico Agricultural Statistics Bulletin. The bulletin was published by the New Mexico Department of Agriculture and the USDA New Mexico field office.

New Mexico’s chile production increased to 71,100 tons, surpassing California as the top producing state. We always knew our chile was something special – and now we’ve got the data to prove it!

Similarly, we always knew we were pretty nutty in these parts – but the bulletin also confirmed that New Mexico also surpassed Georgia in pecan production, as we previously detailed. Onions are also an important crop for the state, producing over 150,000 tons. We fall behind California, Washington, Oregon and Idaho in that production.

There’s always interesting information to discover when you dive into data about New Mexico agriculture and farming. We look forward to seeing how the Land of Enchantment fares next year.
